Sort of note-to-self-post: Though this is quite commonly known, I had not heard about XFS+virtio being such an evil couple before it was already too late. So my suggestion: use ext4. It is atleast as fast as XFS and works with virtio. XFS does not work with virtio. Sooner or later you are gonna get your filesystem corrupted by using this combination.
